Here's a list of 100 or so predictions that didn't happen:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomsday_predictions

Isaac newton said the world would end in 2000... We're still here...
Pope Innocent III predicted the world would end 666 years after the "rise of Islam"... We're still here...
Christians beleived the world would end in 666, 1666... We're still here...
The Crimean war was thought to be the battle of ammageddon... We're still here...

    Noticing a pattern?

Unless it doesn't go supernova and just turns into a red-giant.

We'd be long gone before the Sun rapidly expands and envelopes the Earth (it's not large enough to go supernova, only to slowly expand into a red giant then shrink into a dwarf star). The sun wouldn't even hit us to wipe us out, it's heat would vaporise all of Earth's water and incinerate almost all life on Earth in roughly 1 billion years-2 billion years as it would've expanded and as it dies will become incredibly hot. Basically we need to run away to another solar system in a billion years, when I say we I'm guessing a bit as we could already have been wiped out and super intelligent badgers could have inherited the Earth.

I predict around that time we have technology that can manipulate the orbits of stars and planets by then.

As i said we could already be long gone, we would have to survive longer than any other species in history to be walking around a billion years from now.

Ooh yay!! This is getting scientific!! :D

    Either we'll be dead...
    or we'll be galaxy-wide.

    That's what I reckon.
