IRC OPs Abusing Power

It has come to my attention recently(and as I have seen, the attention of other frequenters of #powder) that many IRC ops have been abusing their powers. This has been an ongoing consistent issue. I will not name any names, but from what I can tell many IRC frequenters want stricter rules of OP conduct and what OPs can and can't ban for. There have been too many instances of bans for personal, or pointless reasons(and sometimes for no reason at all).

My personal suggestion for when to ban goes as follows:
-When the user has been warned about behaviour, and continues it.
-When the user is disrupting the channel, posting/messaging offensive, on #powder.
-When the problem is not a personal issue involving only two people(unless the users are being disruptive and have been previously warned).
-Repeatedly highlighting multiple users/one user multiple times without reason and/or consent.

What I basically want to prevent is OPs banning people because they feel like it, or because they wish to win arguments/debates/conflicts by silencing/banning the other person. OPs should be mature enough to determine whether a user is breaking typical rules and deserves a ban(harassing members, being offensive, etc) and when the problem is personal(not agreeing with mod). If a user is disrespectfully disagreeing(e.g. "[User]: [OP], you are a brain dead piece of ****. You are wrong and you ****ing know it."), then they are being offensive and deserve a warning, then a ban if it continues, but not if they are being respectful(e.g. "I don't really agree with that. I believe [issue x] would be better handled if people used [procedure x].").

P.S. Please show support if you agree, and feel free to add to this, and if I like what you've added, I'll edit the main post :)

    I FULLY SUPPORT!

I think they should de-op a certain person.(Not naming any names)

He banned me for an hour because i said a certain irc client (not naming any names) was Sh*t.

This is the kind of thing I'm talking about. We need OPs that can respect others opinions, and not use their powers to get an unfair, pointless advantage in debates and other disagreements.

P.S. I've experienced similar things. Many a time actually. Like I said, this is an ongoing problem, and it needs to be fixed.

Dedede does not know why you think the OPs are abusing power. They practically have a right to ban.

Things usually aren't as clear-cut. Thus, I disagree with you.

    Last time I actually perma-banned someone was months ago, and happens to be the OP. Who isn't even banned anymore because I didn't see any reason to bother maintaining it `-`;

Bans are used as temporary mutes in the channel, as warnings of things that are frowned at, other times entirely jesting. Stop worrying about it, no one ever gets perma banned from the chat. We'd let nibble back in (and have, several times *sweat*.)

Well, I think I know who Jammy is talking about... And I agree.

I got banned for 13 minutes last night for a single command to Stewie.

    We need some clear rules.

Also there are usually at least 4 OP's on at a time (excluding stewie) and I really don't think we need that many!

This post is hidden because the user is banned

It's not just on irc, it's the mods here as well. Last time I got banned, it was for posting a few too many times. And the first time was for 3 months. (got unbanned by the next morning, though my point still stands)

The rules are perfectly clear, both on the forums and on IRC. Read the title and read the forum rules.

We have a perfect number. Half of the OPs aren't even paying attention.

You're only going to be banned if you do something wrong, people. So, if you are getting banned, you're doing it wrong.
