If you really, really want plastic, go look at Tommig's mod. Even so, plastic won't ever be in the official version, since it has been rejected too many times.

Basically, they were just fed up with the suggestions when they added fighters or stickmen.
The rest have been added either for being necessary or for being awesome. The latter being more likely when it has already been programmed to work. (Yay @Catelite for EXOT) -

Actually, I coded it and it was before cracker started modding :P
It was essentially GOO with a bit more resistance and broke saves. How it was implemented was Oil under pressure would become PLAS, removing all assositation with GAS. DESL replaced OIL as the element GAS became under pressure.
Me and zc00gii made simon have a little rage over that... lol.
I'm having another shot at modding, I may attempt to remake it into something usful. But it will pretty much be a waste of an element, it was only a play around kinda thing to start with.

Fun Fact: O2 was never meant to be. I was going to remove it but it got sucked up into trunk before I could. I finally fixed it and got it how I originally wanted it around 15 versions later.
