@pilojo(View Post) Sorry I'm replying late, You know when the balls of light are coming together to make the windows logo and it says starting windows well the balls jerk a bit and like 1 second into the animation I get a bsod flash on screen and the computer restarts.Where it normally says something on the bsod like ''unmountable boot drive'' there's nothing, I think.
@abaabaabaaba4(View Post) Could the virus have affected your boot record? If so I think you're screwed. Try kaspersky antivirus. It's free. If it doesn't work I don't know how to treat MBR virus'. Wait, you can't get on it. So hook it up to your mom's computer as a secondary harddrive then scan it with kaspersky.
@pilojo(View Post) What is a boot record and would I have to replace the hard drive I'm really starting to worry now. Among others there were trojen agents.
Edit:I read on wikipedia it is 512bytes or something on the hard rive. Also when I format there is always a 100mb system reserved so should I use a program to completely format the hard drive if I can?
Thanks for advice Ill do that.I remembered I installed windows 7 on the hard drive when It was in my mums computer and it worked but Ill still scan it.
@abaabaabaaba4(View Post) boot record: files that are installed in your PC that enables you to boot your hard drive.... if the boot record is broken.... u can't boot your hard drive.... i'm still insisting on my solution... just make the USB bootable, and problem solved..... maybe not..... if this didn't work, whatever u do, do NOT pay 75 pounds..... there is always a free solution
UNMOUNTEBLE_BOOT_VOLUME: indicates an error in the MBR portion , the only way to make the pc booteble again is to reformat the HDD and then reinstalling windows
it is possible to manually retrieve the files on it but it takes a lot of time and should only be done if you put it in a diffrent computer first
also try starting the pc with 1 memory bank full and keep switching them out to see if one of them is faulty
@zerox22x(View Post) I've tried swapping out the ram to different slots and using different slots. I've also backed up everything because I could put it in mums computer and I could access all the data but couldn't boot of it so backed up then re installed but on the install disk there is a format button so done that. Now I can boot form windows with my hard drive on mums computer but not mine.
oh wait.... so u can boot the HDD from your mums PC? but not yours.. i had the same thing with my PC, i installed windows on my HDD from another PC then when i tried booting it from my PC, it wouldn't boot.... the solution was to reformat it from my PC and... well... it worked! but i don't think you can do that cuz your boot files are corrupted.......
(if i was wrong of something, please correct me) (sorry for my bad English)
Its fixed, yay.I installed windows 7 using safe mode but got to a certain point and it couldn't continue so took out a stick of ram and 2 pci cards and this time it worked so after install found it was a piece of ram that was faulty.Even though I tested each ram in each slot the hard drive must of corrupted cause when I used it in mums it had a blue screen of death then I reinstalled it and it still didn't work in mine but did on mine but third time lucky and it worked.
