Jacob1's Mod

Is it just me? Before the last update, the only problem I had with the "favorites" menu was that I could never remember how to edit it (I didn't use the Mod often enough). Now I find it nothing but a distraction and a trap. Clicking on anything makes it jump away and I get something random except sometimes I can chase it down and hit it again...maybe.  I'd rather it just wasn't there, but I don't see any way to make it go away. The other menus...don't get me started.

Also, I can't get the window to open in the right position. It always hangs down too far so I have to shove it up to get at the bottom controls. Editing the pref file doesn't help, it reverts.

New features are hard to appreciate if they cause more confusion and frustration than convenience. :-s  I was trying to get used to the mod, but now it makes me want to avoid it as much as possible. I mostly use it to see if it breaks my saves, or to check something out using the expanded HUD.

Sorry you don't like it ):, some of those issues are easily fixable.

Is that bug in the favorites menu happening in the current version? It sounds like a bug that happened a while ago, but I fixed it after someone pointed it out. The favorites menu works just fine for me now, when I click on an element, it is properly selected and a rapid loop doesn't happen. If the bug still happens for you though, please reply and i'll look into it.

I can probably add a lua function to hide menus. TPT has always had a flag to do this but it never worked, I finally fixed it in my mod a few months ago for the android version. The other menus that you get to by clicking "MORE" are definitely bad, I actually added those in version 1 :O. That was years ago, I haven't done any major redesigns since then. I will add a better options menu at some point, which will have a ton of settings and replace everything inside of "MORE".

As for window position, there is code to make it save window position and reload it when the game starts. For whatever unknown reason, on the Linux version it has issues detecting the window decoration (border) size. It used to constantly shift up and left every time you started it. I eventually got annoyed and just hardcoded some default values to add to the position if it couldn't automatically detect window decoration size. So now it will always shift down and right (well, unless you have the same window decoration size I had). Anyway ... I probably should remove that. I might add a powder.pref option to allow you configure values to add to window position on startup. Would this fix your problem?

For broken saves, most issues are just caused by things that get changed in official TPT. But since official hasn't updated in over a year, it makes it seem like my mod is the problem (but it isn't). You might also want to try out the 91.0 betas, here: http://starcatcher.us/TPT/

Not sure if this should go here or into feedback, but there's a bomb that works just fine in vanilla tpt, but not in your mod. I think I could fix that, I'm just curious why that happens.

Hard to tell exactly why, but it isn't a bug with my mod. It doesn't work in TPT 91.0 either.

My guess is because of this commit, but i'll investigate more later: https://github.com/simtr/The-Powder-Toy/commit/d2807cb28f2ee90aa0f608311351589418b99d37

Hey Jacob1, are you sure the download link is secure? As soon as I downloaded it, my antivirus neuteralized it!

What did it say? Was it annoyed at the url itself (because it doesn't trust the site), or was it annoyed at the .exe file because it thought it was malicious?

    Also, what antivirus?

If you can override it, that should work. The starcatcher.us link should be totally safe.

    Your antivirus neuter-alized it? ._.

It said "1 threat neutralized" It told me that the threats name was "Jacob1's Mod.exe"! I guess that means that it was not the website that it suspected! I use Panda Anti-Virus Free! Should I just overide it? I almost never overide my anti-virus unless I am absolutely sure that it is not a real threat! Sorry, Catelite! I guess I made a typing error!

I've never heard of that anti-virus ... maybe you need a better one?

You can see that my mod is totally safe here: https://www.virustotal.com/en/url/b1d18f4af942536538dbc4ab0342e6e96679a98874680a4dbb543a6ba35aa211/analysis/1454979443/

Edit: Apparently that was only checking the URL. The analysis for the .exe file is here (also safe, just one false positive): https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/8851cd91cbc8181e7d3ebc0baeb5fe92f50f9b1fedb5cab9c04e40180f50d673/analysis/
