The link provided by arK has commits (basically documentation about how the code changed and what it does now)that describe exactly what the changes in the code will do to the game (add an element,change a version number,add an option). Some of the things you probably don't know about (ex.sconscript,scon --help,Merge Pull request )are things you don't really need to know to understand the new elements.

The links provided by jacob1 are for the most part self-explaining,and they usually provide an explanation underneath the commit.

It's a little joke,don't take it too seriously. Xetalim's post is just based off of a joke of how jacob1 sometimes says he's a potato (and,trust us,jacob's not on any mind-changing drugs as far as we know).
