    I'd assume it has less to do with reading direction and maybe more to do with handedness.

    Ah, right handed people are more used to drawing lines from left to right, as you tend to smear when drawing from right to left.

    I've found even if I want to build something right to left (say to save space when put together with another component) I sometimes still end up building it left to right.
