I dont know when it was discovered but I have a theory about how it was discovered. If you place some conv and give it a set it to convert to any solid and blast it with protons, the protons will layer on top of the conv and become a solid, creating a very basic conversation alloy.

dunno, E-hole layers naturally, so probably when E-hole was added. Then people discovered that you could layer outside of E-hole, the rest is history.

I don't have any dates, but a lot of things got discovered once the legacy console was added (late 2010 or early 2011. Lua console was added later in early 2011). Before then, saves using any feature that couldn't be achieved normally were novelties. I remember seeing a save of LAVA that solidified into different things and thinking it was awesome.

But I had a look at the save format, and prior to mid-2012 (version 78.1) it didn't support stacks. It only saved one particle per location. I think EHOLE was a thing before then, and stacking would have been possible with the console before then. But nobody could have shared saves with stacking.
