Wire is this color because in the programs it originated from, it is classically that color.    Boyl could maybe be brighter, but we already have lots of frog-green elements.

You would think, but besides being able to heat things to specific temperatures which isn't required for much that can't be accomplished already, I can't see much use for it either.

Even if useful, filtering elements on temperature is one of those things that can already be done, but is really difficult to do. You practically have to melt things, or other nearby things, to check...
