An ion thruster in reality propulses the craft in the desired direction by splitting electrons away from a noble gas, like helium or hydrogen, and uses the nuclear energy to propell the craft forward. they also do require, (as you have), a Cathode or two to prevent nuclear power from getting too out of hand by neutrilizing some of the electrons that are spread behind the craft. Does that explain it mhurst? also +1 -
