    -Nyanmar, the ion thruster does not need to be powerful as it is used on tiny space probes in larger orbits where almost no escape velocity is needed.

    it generates an electromagnetic feild which then xenon gas is let through , this subsequently turns then xenon into xenon ions and when the reaction occurs it releases small amounts of energy ie the thrust. ion engines have a specific impulse of about 4000.
