tl;dr Religion is an escape, and if you want to understand yourself you have to go beyond religion and see yourself directly *as you are*.

Obviously, we try to escape ourselves into something greater. That "greater" thing is a psychological escape mechanism, I think that's obvious - maybe I'm wrong. Religion is little different than drugs, a way to escape our problems. BUT that *doesn't* mean it's wrong to follow a religion, but it shows that the follower cannot confront him/herself directly because they are full of religious baggage: you are only observing yourself WITH that baggage, not observing yourself as IS.

I think if you really want to lead a truly religious life you ought to go beyond the limitations of thought. Godel saw the limitations of mathematics and Wittgenstein saw the limitation of language. Religion - in perhaps an idealistic sense - is to go beyond the limitations of language. But most of your religions rely on word games

Joe Beef and weenus etc. is a parody religion I've been working on for a while. The point is that most religious beliefs are so obviously produced from the mind.
