    you play a nation in the game, each 'cycle' you send the host a list of things you want to do. they update the save so that these changes happen, and tell you what has changed for you usually in more detail than you can see on the map. The map only really displays where troops, fleets, and settlements are, with some general info about the nations and the terrain.
