    knollkantar: True, but still they were slow, mechanically unreliable and underpowered. I think exceeded just doesn't tell the full story. Also a lot of it was due to the environment, russian winter, germans using gasoline instead of diesel, etc

    Later in the war, when the Blitzkrieg doctrine failed and they stopped caring about the weight of their vehicles, that's when things evened out by making heavier tanks with better guns

    The reason they "exceeded" was because of armor differences. German guns were small and their armor was light. Even their heaviest tanks, the Panzer 4, was a glorified light-tank classified as a medium tank
