New array has a higher PPP count(photons per pixel), allowing faster heat transfer. Assorted other improvements make it more destructive and resilient. An individual diode can survive with ambient heat on and without extra cooling, but the array cannot.

    This is slightly less effective agains tungsten, but is still plenty powerful.
