@JusticeFighter: Hm maybe I'm wrong on what Moire patterns are (with which I hadn't been too familiar prior to giving this problem a try and my knowledge is limited to a skim-through of the Wikipedia article, unlike with signal processing), but this definitely has something to do with undersampling. Which does not contradict what you claim, of course; I'm just looking for a deeper mathematical explanation :P
