    Real life is more... intricate. There is actually a distance between neurones that is called a "synapse". There, it is actually CHEMICAL reactions that relay the message. Vsauce made a video in his mindfield S3 in which he actually makes a brain that can see and decode numbers. You should watch this video if you are interested in making an actual working neurone system.
