In reality a lepton is not a specific elementary particle instead a group of elementary particles that have similar functions and interactions which include the electron, muon, tau, electron neutrino, muon neutrino and tau neutrino. Leptons are also a sub group of Fermions which are elementary particles that (accoriding to the Pauli exclusion principle) are particles that cannot exist in the same place at the same time (unlike Bosons).
