The planet was formed due to the strong gravity of the nucleus of the gas planet , the compression created a solid material (crystal) that formed the planet in the form of icosahedron.

    one problem here: unless the crystals are minecraft bedrock, the gravity and weight would shift them into a sphere because newtonian physics
