@Zuriel hmm this makes me think about famous Polish SF writer Stanislaw Lem and his miastochodach(citywalker) from wizja lokalna(local vision propably can't find english title). Them was also big creatures in which some intelligent aliens living inside. Death ones was used as a prison and prisoners have to move it from inside. There was described very interseting alien society. -
