1861-1865. The First state to secede was South Carolina in 1860. Soon the Southern States followed. Blue = Union Army Yellow = Border States Red = Confederates Grey = U.S (Union Territory). Border States fought with the Union but supported Slavery.

    @SamDwich You do know that Texas was part of the Confederacy, right? Texas has been in the U.S. for twenty+ years at this point. Then joins the seceding States from the Union, cause the people feel that the Union is infringing it's rights. While prior there was what you could call Slave States and Free States, slavery was practiced in the Southern United States. While the North it wasn't practiced, since the North was industrial unlike the rural agrarian South.
