A real-life technologically possible way to travel into deep space. This spacecraft is powered by the detonation of a-bombs. The blast shield will "catch" the blast. It must be assembled in orbit. It has cryo pods though

OKAY WHICH A-BOMB ATOMIC BOMBS OR FARTS?!?!
-
says you aperture scientist
-
And people want us to denuclearise.
-
it was explored by the orion program, it works, and has been tested
-
This is by far the most unbelievably ridiculous way to propel a spacecraft. The person who came up with this should be fired.
-
yeah i speak solar panel, you?
-
it burns the plants if you speak the solar panels
-
Good. +1

Also check out MEDUSA, it is the superior version of Orion, and the one that would be used for deep space travel. Neither design is ideal for the same reason that the VISTA system isn't. About 75% of your reaction is wasted

Technically it is entirely possible to launch Orion from the surface. But Technomancer is correct, you want to be on the rocket, not the ground when it happens
