This shows how mass is transferred from the sun to the earth through nuclear fusion and then photosynthesis. Sorry for not making the correct patterns for the chemicals, I don't do chemistry...

Note that energy cannot be 'stored'. it is either Kinetic energy (energy as a result of motion) or mass. Exothermic chemical reactions increase the final mass, exothermic decrease. The mass is in the chemical bonds. when a string is streched, energy is 'stored' as mass is the electromagnetic bonds between the atoms...
