Yes, @zack123, The U238 decays to Th234, this to Pa234=>U234=>Th230 (...) and the sequence continues to produce other elements to arrive at Pb206 that is stable and not radioactive.

Dear @Hixel, the amount of waste produced in a thorium reactor is much smaller, in addition to use and consume the plutonium that has the waste uranium reactors. So compared in a sense, it is cleaner.
-
doesnt uranium produce thorium when it undergoes alpha decay?
-
And portaplayer said thorium is cleaner, lol
-
Gentlemen, @Hixel and @PortalPlayer, the reactors using thorium as fuel would be a way to reduce the amount of waste from uranium reactors because consume plutonium, but remembering that all fission reactors will always leave radioactive waste in substantial quantity, and half-life very long. The thorium reactors produce technetium 99 and iodine 129, which remain dangerous for more than 100 thousand years). Thanks.

So, does it matter that you can make weapons out of uranium, what is the problem if u use it for energy? Oh i see, you are one of the people who think that when you flick a wrong switch in a nuclear plant the whole planet will blow up. ** *** ***** **** ******* ** **** ***

Thorium reactors are cleaner, but because you can't make weapons with thorium no-one bothers mining it.

Wait a sec...

Right,@MrSpudNugget . Sorry for the misunderstanding.
