for some reason the light will pass through the gold only when it is not split into its different colors. Even though its the same light.

It's not the color of the light that causes it, but its position, since the gold is so thin if the light is at just the right position it will get skipped over. The glass you are using to color the light also shifts the position of it so that it no longer lines up.
