further more, destroyers are typically fairly small, as they were originally designed to defend capital ships and cruisers against torpedo boats, which could sink a ship one or two orders of magnitude more expensive than they were. They eventually began carrying their own torpedoes, and anti air weaponry, and are now primarily missile craft, like every other goddamn warship on the planey -
rop1p 2nd Sep 2016the use of the term battlecruiser bothers me, because IRL a battlecruiser was effectively a battleship that sacrificed either armor (for the British/Japenese designs) or gun caliber (for the German) for speed. They weren't a catchall term, they were effectively cruisers with battleship grade firepower because speed is armor
