See rutheford experiments for more info. Particles (Electrons in this case) are shot in front of a gold pannel, someones pass trough the gold pannel, another ones reflects in 90 degrees, this proes Rutherford Atomic Model.
weird rutherford

xtotdam is right, this isnt the rutherford experiment. the electrons should go through the foil, which showed that most of the atom is empty space, this proves the exact opposite of the experiment

This experiment also prove that Coulomb's law is useful for nucleus

Sadly, this is not that famous experiment, that gave us Rutherford's atom model. Actually, gold foil was in the center of a round camera, covered with luminescentic substance inside. Flashes, occurred on the back side of this camera (with angle greater than 180dg) made R. to invent his model, later improved by Bohr. Picture, given in RU Wiki is not obvious and doesn't exist in EN Wiki. Better picture: http://www.home-edu.ru/user/f/00000951/04/pic/p0006.jpg

ShakeDrake97, and for all, sadly, the inventary of The Powder Toy ain't alpha particles.

eh wait. -_- I didn't read it correctly. Nevermind.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that the Rutherford's gold foil experiment was shooting alpha particles at a sheet of super-thin gold foil and seeing that most of them passed through, thus proving the atom is empty space. Or this just another thing he did?

    A great representation!
