How Rainbows Are Formed by TechnicAlpha
Rainbows are formed when white light photons hit something which is capable of refracting and splitting light. In nature, raindrops are the splitter. In this, the glass prism/triangle serves that purpose.

Actually there is one refraction followed by a reflexion and ended with another refraction. Because here you just feel warm photons in your face ;) -
