Rainbows are formed when white light photons hit something which is capable of refracting and splitting light. In nature, raindrops are the splitter. In this, the glass prism/triangle serves that purpose.

    Actually there is one refraction followed by a reflexion and ended with another refraction. Because here you just feel warm photons in your face ;)
