    Deadline is 3 weeks from now (20th september).

    In reality this would work and be a lot more efficient than ordinary rockets. The project was stopped because of political reasons not because it wasn't working. They found nothing that they would be unable to do with the technology and materials they had in the 60s.

    exactly, the worry was of radioactive fallout.

    Because the nukes would destroy all. Unless you used White hole. But that would be pointless.
