I play Minecraft too, I also hate that it is written in Java. Such a simple renderer should not be getting 12 FPS. I can render quake 3, I should be able to render a bunch of 8x8 boxes.

Minecraft is supposed to be decent for server-side stuff (an area I have no experience in and will not comment on). For client side stuff, Java is terrible. Non-native UI, slow because of the GC (they have an incredibly fast scanning GC, but the fact remains that freeze the world style stuff causes noticeable delays), terrible language (though you can use stuff like Clojure, so I won't hold that against the JVM. I really like the JVM, it is pretty amazing). Seriously, they left out unsigned types because they thought they would be too complicated for developers to understand.

The language really is designed for idiots.

EDIT: I should probably mention I am not bashing you, your translation, or your choice to use Java. I am bashing Java itself.

I would also like to point out that his post was very clearly constructive criticism in this case, as he did compliment the thing and was pointing out some legitimate bugs.

I hate minecraft code. It is idiotic. I was managing MC server for a long time. It works slowly because it is idiotic. 4 example, main loop uses only one thread.

The language is not ideal, but it isn't very bad.
