Can someone explain how in the 16-bit powder toy world did I create a tutorial on the most oddest thing that I have ever discovered about lava in the powder toy? When you try out the creation try typing !set life lava -100  The results are very electronic looking.

Well, the life of lava depends on how hot it is, where the hotter the lava, the higher the life. Naturally, lava's life will never dip below about 35, where it turns into stone. At a guess, I'd say that after setting lava's life so low, it suddenly realizes that it shouldn't be that way and switches back to about 156. Some particles take a few frames longer, which explains the effect you see when you unpause. As for the peculiar green color that manifests when you set the life that low, I'm not sure, but I think it has something to do with the formula that calculates the color of an element in relation to its life. This happens with deut too, but deut's color is much more sensitive to changes in its life.
Again, most of this is an educated guess, but I'm pretty sure I'm right! ^_^

It looks like someone forgot to tell Powder Toy to check for negative numbers looping around as well as extremely high positive numbers, but again I don't really know.

Though beyond any doubt, the odd flashy colors -are- characteristic of a kind of overflow error that doesn't really harm the game. Most of them have been removed from older versions already.
