Hello! i need to know: Will this work? idea: Flour is flammable at the right consistency of air to flour right? also, copper sulphate burns green and lithium chloride burns red, iron filings sparkle when burned, and phosphorus burns well. so i am going to mix all those chemicals, powder them, and throw them above a tea light. will this make a rainbow sparkling poof of flame?
Tea light? Maybe. Or you can just buy a propane torch and destroy stuff that way. How large of a mixture are we talking? A good size lump of this mixed together with the proper flame source and your good to go. You won't need the flour, just replace it with fine powered wood shavings, and that would work a ton better. What type of phosphorus are you using? If it's red it will burn like a match (actually exactly like a match) but if you get white phosphorus, well now we are talking about an explosive compound. You will only need a small amount of copper sulphate for the green coloration, and the same with the iron powder, same stuff used in fireworks. There's other stuff you could add but what you listed would probably work. I wouldn't suggest relying on phosphorus powder, because it loses some (not all) of it's flammability when exposed to oxygen. Try making your own homemade explosive compounds using some beginners material, stuff you can buy online. If you are more familiar with different explosive compounds, you may want to start working with the more explosive compounds. You will need a liscense to buy that kind of stuff, if you want to do it legally :) Fortunately I know someone who has one such liscense, therefore granting me limited access to certain materials not normally found on eBay. As for you, you will have to stick with the basics. Try going onto www.UnitedNuclear.com. It's a cool website with certain powdered versions of what you may be looking for. Enjoy :)
Thermite is a personal favorite. You can buy a downgraded version of it online in small quantities with no max limitation of how much you can own. Good for explosions over 4000degrees ferhenhiet. That stuff can melt through most metal plates. You might need something really hot to cause it to ignite though, but once it burns it doesn't stop. Don't try any of this without proper safety procedures, seriously. It may sound like it's all fun and games, but burning your flesh until it blisters and boils isn't fun. Just be careful if you are doing this for real. I always wear safety glasses and have a spare source of water nearby to quickly put out the flames in an emergency, and stand at least 15-20 feet away from the source of flame. Bottom line- don't get yourself killed.
