Well, here it is. I have been a loyal user of powder toy since version 42, I have seen a lot of great creations over the years, and a lot of great creators too, some have gone, while others have come in to take there place. I have seen some good talent and spirited creativity on the date section, but, I fear we will never see the level of ingenuity and cooperation between people like when user25 and Lucky were cranking out guns while I was still figuring out how wifi worked. lol. That and the CPU units and other more advanced electronics that stunned and continue to stun me every time I look at them. Simply put I am seeing that things are growing the same, i.e. a gun in one form or the other on every page. With new found simplicity in TPT, things have become very, well, bland. If I saw Armans' Nuclear Reactor, lets say, maybe 10 versions ago, I would have been incredibly impressed. But, that isn't true. So many people are either stealing creations or creating similar ones it seems. At the end of this year, I will be totally done with TPT. I'll probably turn my account over to someone else, but, I am growing bored of seeing the same things over and over again. I am guilty of the same things I have just described too, and that only adds to my boredom, and the ever increasing stack of papers next to my laptop. I just got a letter from Harvard Business and William & Mary Law School, and will have to choose very soon, that, and severe stress issues are only adding to my problems. This is not fun at all. Can anyone prove what I just wrote wrong in any way?
I'm more concerned with the way the community is going. I've been part of the community for over a year now and have played Powder Toy for even longer. I have seen a steady downward decline in user activity over the past few months. I feel that if this downward spiral(which, also includes the downward spiral in save quality you mentioned) continues we will be left with a rotten community. Sure, updates will come out, but little will be made and a game that I see in my school every day, as do other around the world(which leads me to believe we could easily have over 1 million users worldwide, registered and unregistered). It would truly be a loss to see the game go under but if it is going to, then we can only mildly postpone such a collapse.
We'll see, maybe this trend will level out, begin to increase again, or atleast Powder Toy may get a second wind before it's inevitable collapse.
I have seen the same thing happen over time. When I started playing The Powder Toy, (about a year ago) I thought this simulator was great. Now, I am seeing nothing but people making things that are fairly simple to make. I can't say very much, because I haven't made a decent creation in a long time. But simply put, it seems people are running out of ideas and just making "flashier" copies of the same creations about a year ago. Maybe we can figure out a way to get a group together that puts out "challenges" to make creations that haven't been made before to any and every registered active user. Another thing we can do is get the social media a little more active so we can get even more attention towards The Powder Toy.
I third that I too have only been here about 4 or so months and I'm also seeing the same thing Especially the saves, their soo boring guns and guns and guns and guns and a nuke and some more guns
Its getting to reptitive here and there is some original ones like lolescapebrowse's rocket launch but all the saves that were always here like that tornado maker that was too on front page that was pretty nicely done but we just aren't seeing these things no more. I mean so far I haven't seen a complex save using elec the element a lot of people wanted.
I too have noticed this , ive seen an uptake among noobs/trolls on the forums and nothing genuinely "new" in saves
unfortunatly most of everything has been done
and while the updates help making things LOOK nicer doesnt do much for new creations
and the elements end up only having a few purposes.....
the only way i could see to remedy this is to find a new couple of elements that just have so much potential that people can create truly new things ......
We (Powder Sim) have a few elements like that already. For instance, we actually finally have more uses for YEST. We also have a few other new elements that have improved play ability quite a bit. Now if only there was some way to implement elements like those into tpt.
Maybe the issue is as simple as this: The community is made of children... From what I gather from the past, the community now, has a larger percentage of children under the age of 15 or so.
We should make a group for only experienced users :P
That isn't the answer to the underlying issue. I am what people would call a experienced user. (I don't prefer myself as one)
But I haven't come up with a decent creation in about 4 months. Also, age has nothing to do with it. One of the most experienced users in The Powder Toy is 14 years old. He has contributed to a lot of lua scripts that are in TPT right now. He also has what I would consider the best mod out there. So I don't really think it has anything to do with the age of the users, but more that the people have run out of ideas to put into creating simulations for TPT.
