Nope, you would say: "May I have some < insert food here > , please" or atleast thats what us told in school.

That would be perfect English. Most people would say 'Can I have some <food>, please?'

actually, it is considered rude to say something like "can I go to the bathroom" instead of "may I go to the the bathroom" because can is asking if it is possible to use the bathroom and may is asking if they are allowed to go. In elementary school teachers always annoyed everyone about that.
