I don't know when simon started work on it, the game is open source, anyone can download and modify and recompile the source.

The original owner just left the program to rot :(

the original pt is open source? I believe we talked about this, but I never found the source code for it.

Well somehow AMD got the source and made the physics system work on opencl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PAiCinmP9Y&feature=player_embedded . Imagine if we could do that now.

AMD Didn't make any modifications (Except the screen size) they were demoing some technology that allowed scaling of single-threaded applications across multiple processing cores.

take a look at this PTers, if you like physics (or not) just look...

it blew my mind just from the first bit of video.

I'm sorry Simon, but the PT or even cake don't compare in terms of simulating physics like this. However i wonder how that's processed, if the PT slows down with a full screen of elements on a 2d plane, how would something like that smoothly visualize what looks like millions of particles incorporated with friction and gravity in a 3d environment? or do they have one super computer dedicated just to simulating it?

I think they have a super-computer It's for visual effects not for playing at home, so big companies can rent a super-computer for a year or two, to render their film or to simulate big amount of water.

lol, no I heard a little about this, The physics can be done real time but the rendering takes a long time, kind-of like rendering with any other program

Simulation of big number of particles and especially water, takes a lot of time, and can't be simulated in real time on a usual comp.
