    Yes, and you can always download the older version and replace the older version's .jar file with the newer 1.8 pre-release

    The survival one is free, as well. Google "minecraft for free" and a click on "Free Minecraft!" gets you there.

    Yes, but any and all free versions are not supported by Mojang.
