I would like to dual-boot my windows 7 computer with Ubuntu studio. The last time I tried to partition my hard drive, it decided to go to sleep and never wake up. I ended up using a win7 installer/restoration disk to fix it. I picked up a tip on a linux website that told me to defragment it before I partition it. Should I be able to shrink the windows 7 partition enough to add another partition without killing windows?
@Colton-Bates(View Post) I think it would depend on how much space you have. When I put ubuntu on my previous laptop, I had 130 Gigs left after a 30 gig partition. I don't even know if you can easily change the windows partition (If at all)
@The-Con(View Post) I have the necessary software and hard drive space, and I know that I can partition the drive, I just don't know If I can without trashing my windows installation.
I don't have fast enough internet to download a player, creator, or virtual image. (But I do mysteriously have the ubuntu studio iso from back when we had dial-up, I think it took me about 3 months...). I would just like to know if there's any way to partition the drive without messin' up my windows. (technically, I could not care less about win7, but my mom would kill me if she just walked in on me with a different os) I will now be watching the movie 'Airplane', so i probably won't be able to respond until tomorrow, but thanks for your help!
