why?

"After the raid was over and the rest of the fortress surrendered, I finally got around to meeting up with Kiliari. He looked pretty scratched up, but everyone did, so I didn't pay it much mind. Our commander finally sent us a message to gear up and prepare to depart to a nearby village, which was occupied by the Terrans just a few minutes ago. I could tell that we were really streched out with the invasion of the Harridans.

We board another truck and go to the village, which was only a few kilometers away from the fortress. Once we reached the town, we meet up with the commander, who tells us that this town was a tug-of-war between the Terrans and the Harridans for a few days, until the Harridans retreated just a few hours ago. Now we have strict orders to shoot on sight any Harridan we see, weather they are civilians or soldiers.

I was pretty hesitant about it, but I was in no position to reject orders from a superior, so I just ended up wishing that I just won't found anyone.

I enter one of the shelled cottages and find nothing. Another one, nothing. Another, nothing.

Okay, thank Goodness no-one's here.

I enter another house somewhere on the outskirts. I once wished I had a house like that, with a nice white piket fence and a green lawn, only without the burned remains of a soldier's splattered on the lawn and without a large, flaming hole in the main living room, but hey, nothing's perfect.

Now that I entered the house, nothing was on the first floor. I slowly climb the stairs to the 2nd floor and enter a small room.

I see a Harridan mother holding her son and a father holding a daughter and a small cat, all trying to hide from my sight. The father gasps and looks at me, speechless. They knew their demise was soon to come. I raise my rifle and aim it at them, the mother and father try to shield their kids, I try to pull the trigger, but I just... couldn't. I knew they were Harridans and that I would have been in big trouble if the commander found out i spared Harridans, but I just couldn't shoot.

I slowly put my finger to my mouth and whisper:

shhhhhh. Don't mutter a word.

I slowly close the door and yell to my commander, which was in the same house, also looking around:

Sir! House's is clear! No threats sighted!

He comes up to me and looks at me in the eyes. I had the goggles on, but even then he noticed how my pupils diluted and he realized I was lying. He pushes me out of the way and rushes into the room where the family was hidding. Their screams were drowned in gunshots and the sounds of plasma melting flesh.

He comes up to me and tells me:

As punishment for lying to a superior, you'll have to clean that mess up."

"I enter the room and notice a white blanket the family must have been hidding behind with a bunch of smoking bullet holes in it. I was pretty hesitant from pulling it, from fear of seeing them riddled with gun-shots, but I had to otherwise I got in even bigger trouble. I pull it away, but notice nothing. Hm?

I look around the room, and hear the closet door creek. I went to the closet and open the door, noticing the family hidding inside. I decided I won't attack them. Killing civilians isn't right, no matter which side they support.

I hand-gesture to them to stay quiet and look outside the window. It wasn't a drop too large. I whisper to them to jump out and I fallow them, making sure nobody sees us. I tell them to hide in a road-side ditch and through that we crawl towards a forest. Once we reach it, a Harridan with a gun points it straight at me.

I raise my hand and whisper that I mean no harm, but he didn't believe me untile the civies told him that I took them here to save them from the 'genocide' in the village. Apperantly the guy with the gun was a defective (the Harridan Empire is very picky about who is loyal enough to their 'cause' and those that are deemed deserters are named 'defectives' and they aren't allowed basic activites). There was a defective rebel group around here that at first was having peaceful relations with us, but then our commander gave the order to shoot on sight. ('cause he's a douchebag)

I let the familiy run away into the woods and I go on my way back to the village. On the way I bumped into a patrol squad and they asked what I was doing.

Oh, um, err.. I dumped the bodies into the woods. I hastely come up with a lie to say.

Meh. Okay. They say, phew.

I go to the barracks and I whisper to Kiliari what heppened. He thinks I'm insane, but understands why I left them be."

"While at work at the R&D, I saw a guy caressing a bunch of MP4s in front of the lab. I tried asking what was going on, and he just said:
