Not direct explosions... nothing on earth can, but the radiation is what I think he meant, while most living things cant survive at all.

Maybe really heavily armoured bunkers can....
and according to mythbusters, radiation causes damage at a cellular level when cells are dividing. This happens very often in humans, while much less in cockroaches. That's why it can survive radiation. But definitely not the explosion part though.
Also, this is veering WAAAAYYYY offtopic. We went from a super strong material's lua code to how explosions can be survived =P -
