no Niven. ENGN would generate smoke and electricity EVERY 20 FRAMES. that means that the stuff would come out in pulses... like an engine. the duration between pulses is controled by temp.

 I got that idea from real life black holes, because they slowly evaporate their mass away, getting smaller and smaller, until they finally explode.
