on macs at least, you can press an Fn key which allows the Fn keys to be application-specific.

whenever i need an application specific function, i find it very simple to use Fn.

On most PCs, if not all, F# keys are application specific. Like F11 on an internet browser is full-screen,. On a normal screen, this does nothing.
