Ah, yes! I love Ubuntu 10.04! Boots in about 1/2 min, logs in in 15 sec, shuts down in under 1min. Quick, elegant, reliable, FREE! And installs for many great, free, open-source programs are so simple and easy (well, most of the time!)! Python, Blender, Audacity, GCC, etc...

it's just that in most stores you can't even get a prebuilt pc without windows and a lot of trial crap preinstalled.

i've asked the owner of a nearby computer parts shop, he said that the sales licence from microsoft prohibits him of selling any other preinstalled operating system then ms windows.
so for him it's either only boxes with ms windows preinstalled or no boxes with ms windows preinstalled.

ps: when i got my laptop, it of course came with windows preinstalled, i clicked decline on the Eula screen and demanded my €399 back from medion(my laptop manufacturer).
pps: along with refund came a note with instructions on where to get alternative operating systems like linux.

And the hard drives are already set to NFTS filesystem for Win7.

I feel Windows is just unnecessarily bloated. Yes, it looks nice, but for me, performance comes before design.

On a related note, when I first saw screenshots of 10.04, I thought it was OS X for a second.
