Yes, Iridium is also a catalyst but platinum is a more effective one, not to mention more well-known. -

It actually has very similar chemical properties to platinum, which is why it is classified as a platinum group metal and used for catalysts.

The platinum group have similar properties, you could just think of the name generically, like NBLE does for all noble gasses. -
Aqua regia can go well with gold and platinum.
