the intended behaviour was always for it to reset to MAX_TEMP, Inf and NaN are bugs.   If you consider NaN is Not A Number... its pretty obvious.

I disagree. I came here with no knowledge of C programming, and very little of much else. All you need to know is the basic syntax.
