Is the compiler returning any other errors?

you tried all of them? only one will work

./build  or  ./powder-sse  or  ./powder-sse2

is the terminal pointed at the right place? use cd to go into the powder directory then try it

try $ make powder-sse3

Nope, thats working fine here...  open the makefile with gedit and check if this is there:  powder-sse3: $(SOURCES)  $(COMPILER) -m32 -o$@ $(CFLAGS) $(OFLAGS)...

... wtf?! O_o    thats new to me... what source are you using?
