    Thanx TheLiberator and tfincher! Virginia was named after Queen Mary of England (The Virgin Queen). She never married so a man from another country would not be on the English throne.

    though it is important to know that Virginia (the state) was named after some queen who never had any kids, she was known as "The Virgin Queen". We are learning about Jamestown in school
