  If it has eight then it would be an oxygen atom. You would need two shells,first one holding a max. of 2 electrons,second holding 6. There are 127 elements (types of atoms), not just one.

  no, no, no, you have it wrong. An atom is made up of protons and neutrons in the center, and electrons circling the outside (making a shell). :D #JustSaying
