    usually when starting i just withdraw like 40% (including length with displacers) then i would just go from there once in the heating range

    recently, i mimicked "graphite" displacers by adding vent onto the lower ends of the control rods. The reactor is designed to be unstable to operate. you dont want to withdraw the rods completely to the point even displacers and actual absorbers are withdrawn entirely. Otherwise scramming might not be quick enough and you might rupture a fuel channel or something.

    Well when I pull the rods it melts in like 30 seconds.
