    An actual particle accelerator is a lot more complicated. A linear accelerator, for example, utilizes alternating charges of electrical fields, produced by a high-frequency generator, in order to accelerate the charged particles in between the individual fields. Or in simpler terms: Push at the back and pull from the front via electrical fields. Please note that the linear accelerator is rather weak compared to others.
