  It always suprises me when I see maps and see that europe is really that short, it always feels like russia is so far away but if this is accurate then it's much closer in reality. +1

  Crimea did have a referendum in 2014 in which they officially voted to become a part of Russia. Now, this does not necessarily justify Russia's actions and the legitamacy of the referendum is still in question. However, several polling agencies, including many from western and democratic countries, have shown that a majority of Crimeans supported the unification of Crimea into Russia.

  The International Court of Justice ruled that Kosovo was a sovereign country in 2010. It is almost internationally recognized (though it does not have a seat in the UN), excluding a few key countries such as Serbia, Russia, and China.
